What Are Botulinum Toxin Injectables?

Botulinum toxin injections temporarily relax the facial muscles to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as prevent new lines from forming. Common injection sites include the forehead, the area between the eyebrows, the corners of the eyes, and the sides of the chin. The injections can also be used for a wide variety of other conditions, including migraines, excessive sweating, and psoriasis.

Types of Botulinum Toxin Injectables

There are many brand names for botulinum toxins that are all effective and have different costs.  This includes Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau. While each type is similar in results, somechave a different overall effect. For example, Dysport is known for wrinkle control that begins to work days faster than Botox, but it offers a softer, less ‘frozen’ result for those who want to remove the wrinkles, but still maintain movement in everyday facial expressions.

Botox FAQs

Who Should/Should Not Get Botox Injectables?

Botulinum toxin injectables are for people with wrinkles caused by movement of the face. The treatment is quick and there is no downtime so it can even be done on a lunch break. Fine wrinkles are easier to treat than those that are deep-set, so prevention is key. In older patients with deep-set wrinkles, the injections can be used to soften deep wrinkles, while the addition of other procedures may be needed to get an optimal effect. This involves a series of small injections made with very small needles but if you are terribly afraid of needles you may want to rethink. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding BOTOX®/XEOMIN® are not recommended.

When Will I See The Results?

Initial results can typically be seen after four to five days. Results can improve over two weeks, so it’s important to wait until then before evaluating your results. It’s at this point that we can look to see if an additional injection is necessary to achieve the desired effect.

How Long Will My Results Last?

While botulinum toxin injectables temporarily smooth your fine lines and wrinkles, to maintain results most people will need another treatment within three to six months.

What to Expect After BOTOX

It’s normal to see a bit of minor redness, swelling, and bruising in the treatment sites, but this will likely not be long-lasting. Our aesthetic team might suggest that you avoid strenuous physical activity and keep yourself from touching the treated areas of your face until after a day or so. Within 2 – 3 days, you will probably begin to notice your smoother, firmer skin. BOTOX can provide up to four months of youthful, natural-looking enhancements for most individuals. Dirk will decide how frequently you should receive injections as part of a customized plan to help you reach your cosmetic goals. Our staff can discuss the cost of BOTOX, but the price varies according to the number of units utilized.

What Are The Risks Or Side Effects?

Complications are very rare and never permanent. If medication unintentionally spreads to another area it may cause a drooping eyelid, which can usually be treated with medication. In cases of unevenness at follow-up appointments, further injections can be made to balance your appearance. No case of systemic complications has ever been confirmed while using botulinum toxin cosmetics in aesthetic doses. Read your consent thoroughly for a full list of possible side effects.

Are Botox, Xeomin, And Jeuveau The Same Thing?

Botox is produced by the drug company Allergan, Xeomin is produced by Merz, and Jeuveau is produced by Evolus. These products are slightly different variations of the same moleculeall produced from Botulinum type A. They work the same way on the body and achieve similar results.

How many BOTOX treatments or injections will I need?

The number of BOTOX treatments needed will differ based on individual concerns and the extent of your lines and wrinkles. Our team will suggest the ideal quantity of BOTOX injections according to your desired treatment outcomes and whether you prefer to treat the brow area, Crow’s feet, or forehead. To keep up with your aesthetic results, our team may suggest scheduling BOTOX treatments every 3 – 4 months at C&D Medical Aesthetics.

Can BOTOX be paired with additional aesthetic procedures?

BOTOX treatment performed at C&D Medical Aesthetics usually pairs well with additional aesthetic services that minimize signs of aging. If you have more pronounced and severe facial lines and wrinkles, we may recommend incorporating a dermal filler for smoother results. To further enhance your youthful, radiant appearance, our team can discuss other complementary services, including PRP with microneedling or facials.

Are there comparable cosmetic injectable options?

BOTOX is a specific formulation of wrinkle reducer that competes among a range of other comparable options, such as Dysport®, Jeuveau™, and XEOMIN®. These wrinkle relaxer solutions are made from type A botulinum toxin, but each is designed individually to address specific issues.

Is there a difference between wrinkle reducers and fillers?

While wrinkle reducers like BOTOX are utilized to decrease fine lines by temporarily blocking muscle engagement, dermal fillers are a separate category of aesthetic injections that improve volume in the face. Dermal fillers are intended to volumize sunken areas and fill in static wrinkles. Our team at C&D Medical Aesthetics can ascertain if you might benefit from a dermal filler to further enhance your BOTOX outcomes.
